London Awards

A - Alfred Fagon Award
Prize open to new plays written in English, by young Caribbean or Caribbean linked, playwrights. Presented in memory of actor, producer and poet Alfred Fagon.

B - Blue Peter Book Awards
Run under the moniker of the Children's BBC flagship programme. Hosted by the Blue Peter team. Recorded for broadcast at a later date. Last year's winner was Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo.

C - Celebrities Guild Unsung Heroes Awards
Gala evening honouring 10 people who have selflessly helped others. Raises funds for children with HIV and AIDS in the UK.

D - Drapers Awards 2006
Organised by Emap's fashion trade magazine to recognise retailing excellence.

E - Evening Standard Theatre Awards
London paper's celebrates the best performances of the past year. Categories include: Best Musical; Best Play; Best Director; Best Actress; and Best Actor.

F - Financial Times Goldman Sachs Business Book Award
Celebrating business books offering 'compelling and enjoyable insight into modern business issues. Winning author receives £30k, five shortlisted authors each get £5k. Backed by the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs.

G - Grandparent Of The Year Awards
Age concern awards in which children across the UK nominate their grandparents. Five finalists travel to London, where the award is presented at a celebrity luncheon.

H - The British Hairdressing Awards
Highlight of the professional hairdressing calendar and the culmination of a seven-month campaign to find winners in each of the UK regions and the British Hairdresser of the Year.

I - Ivor Novello Awards
Honouring songwriters, composers and music publishers. Last year's winners included: Best Contemporary Song, Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out; Best Song Musically and Lyrically, The Streets - Dry Your Eyes; Most Performed Work, Britney Spears - Toxic; International Hit, U2 - Vertigo; and Best Selling UK Single, Band Aid 20 - Do They Know It's Christmas?

J - John Llewellyn Rhys Prize
One of the oldest and most prestigious UK literary prizes is presented to an author aged under 35.

K - KISS Awards 2006
Voted for by KISS 100 radio listeners.

L - Life Savers Awards
Presentation to 10 individuals - members of the general public or the emergency services who have shown extraordinary bravery in saving the life of another. Celebrity judges in 2005 were Jane Asher, Fern Britton, Philip Schofield, Michael Burke, Martin Kemp, Nell McAndrew, Claire Sweeney, Simon Weston and Joe Pasquale.

M - Music Industry Trusts' Awards 2006
Presentation made at a dinner organised by the BPI and held in aid of the Nordoff-Robbins music therapy and BRIT trust charities. Last year's recipient was Michael Parkinson.

N - Nestlé Children's Book Prize
One of the UK's biggest book prizes for children's fiction and poetry. Nine books are chosen from submissions from publishers. Winners are announced in three categories: Age five and under; Ages six to eight and ages nine to 11.

O - Orange Award For New Writers
Presentation of writing award open to women of any age or nationality, who have had their first work published in the UK between April 1, 2005, to March 31, 2006. All works of fiction are considered including novels, short story collections and novellas. Winner receives a £10k cash prize.

P - Paul Hamlyn Foundation Awards For Visual Arts
Visual arts award scheme with a total prize fund of £150k . Five artists each receive a £30k prize.

Q - The Queen's Awards for Enterprise
The Awards will celebrate a wide range of key enterprise skills, from fostering novel business methods to outstanding leadership in promoting entrepreneurial capacity in others.

R - RSPCA Young Photographer Awards
Entries are divided into two age groups: under 12s and 12-18. Last year's host was Chris Packham.

S - Supermum Awards
Gloria Hunniford hosts ceremony celebrating motherhood held in aid of The Caron Keating Foundation. Winner bags a luxury holiday, and the five finalists all receive a romantic UK weekend break.

T - Turner Prize
Presentation of award recognised as one of the most prestigious and important visual arts prizes. Winner receives £25k and the other shortlisted artists are awarded £5k each. Broadcast on Channel 4.

U - Urban Music Awards 2006
Honouring artists, DJs, musicians, labels and club nights that make up the underground, dance, and urban music scene.

V - Variety Club Showbiz Awards
Celebrating the best in showbusiness. Categories include: Most Loved Entertainer, Recording Artist of the Year, Showbusiness Personality of the Year; and Outstanding Stage Performance of the Year. Last year's hosts were Brian Dowling and Myleene Klass.

W - Women Of The Year Awards
Categories include Special Achievement; Accolade; Outstanding Contribution; and Woman Of The Year. Guests include representatives of major record companies and independents. Raises money for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and the BRIT trust.

X - 02 X Awards
For the most successful new businesswomen

Y - Young At Art Awards 2006
Work from this year's annual Young At Art Awards. Event is designed to encourage creativity within primary, secondary and special education schools and further education colleges.

Z - The Zoological Society of London Scientific Awards
The Zoological Society of London recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of zoological research and conservation through its annual presentation of awards and prizes.
